Sources close to President Koirala said he will undergo follow-up medical checkup of his tongue at New York-based Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Koirala, who underwent cancer operation on his tongue a few years ago, was advised by his doctors to visit the Hospital each year for follow up medical checkups. [break]
However, he had not been able to visit to the hospital last year due to busy schedule.
Koirala´s aides said he is planning to go to US for medical checkup as doctors at Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital a few days ago suggested to him to visit the US. Koirala will be accompanied by his sister and NC leader Mridula Koirala.
During his 10-day stay in New York, Koirala is also scheduled to attend a function organized by NC-affiliated Nepali Liaison Committee. “Though the visit is said to be for just 10 days, it may take two weeks for him to return home,” said a source.
NC Chief Secretary Chin Kaji Shrestha, however, expressed ignorance about the visit. “I have heard about it, but I don´t have any details,” he said.
