KATHMANDU, Feb 6: The main opposition Nepali Congress on Thursday obstructed the proceedings of the House of Representatives protesting the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA)’s move to implicate its key leader Bijay Kumar Gachhadar in the controversial Lalita Niwas land scam.

Rising from their seats during the House meeting, the NC parliamentarians opposed the CIAA's move calling it an act of 'political vendetta' and 'biased'.

Speaking at the meeting, NC whip Pushpa Bhusal raised the question on the CIAA's impartiality arguing that only those political figures from the opposition party were implicated.

"Interestingly, CIAA did not file corruption cases against former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and NCP leader Bishnu Poudel, though cabinet-level decisions were taken during their tenures to legalize the transfer of government land to individuals," she said while smelling rat in the CIAA investigation.

On Wednesday, the CIAA had filed a charge-sheet against 175 individuals, including Nepali Congress leader Bijay Kumar Gachhadar, at the Special Court, accusing them of involvement in illegally registering Lalita Niwas land in the names of various individuals.

Bhusal accused the CIAA of becoming the shadow of the government. She opined that the CIAA's move to implicate Gachchadar is politically motivated and biased.

The House meeting has been adjourned following the obstruction and the next meeting will take place at 1 pm on Friday.
