KAILALI, July 1: The Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party has voiced strong opposition to the decision by the Sudurpaschim Province government to split ministries, citing concerns over increased financial strain. The party has issued a press statement expressing dissatisfaction with the creation of 10 ministries, up from the previous seven.

In the statement, Bikram Singh Dhami, Chief Whip of the provincial assembly parliamentary party, condemned the move as a decision that could escalate financial burdens on the province. The party warned the provincial government to reconsider its decision promptly, emphasizing that the failure to do so could lead to adverse consequences.

The controversy arose following Chief Minister (CM) Dirgha Bahadur Sodari's recent decision to split the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure, Ministry of Social Development, Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Co-operatives and Ministry of Forests and Environment. This division included the assignment of five ministers without portfolio.

NC contends that the splitting of ministries was undertaken without addressing concerns such as the unauthorized release of sensitive documents like the Annual Development Program Red Book for the fiscal year 2024/25.
