According to Keshav Dahal, who was elected district president, about 80 percent of the leadership has been transferred to youths.
The districts in total had 570 candidates for the constituency level convention. Gajendra Tumyang, 30, won the post of secretary. In Panchthar, Narendra Kerung, 40, won the post of president while Raju Shrestha, 30, won as secretary.
According to local journalist Laxmi Gautam, young leaders have about 75 percent presence in the district level working committee. "Nearly 60 percent youths have been elected in the constituency level convention," Gautam said.
In constituency-1 of Taplejung, eight of the 12 Mahasamiti and constituency level convention have gone to youths. In constituency-2, those winning the Mahasamiti and constituency level conventions are 26 to 35 in age.
Keshav Dahal hoped the young leadership will help strengthen the party organization. He, however, said they will seek suggestions from older leaders who led in the past.
First Dalit president in Rukum
According to our district correspondent, Man Bahadur Nepali has been elected district party president. Nepali is the first Dalit president in Rukum, a conflict affected district. Nepali was elected unanimously.
Some leaders of the CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist) also applauded the election of a Dalit president. After two days of dispute, the 31-member new working committee was declared led by Nepali. Nepali is close to party Acting President Sushil Koirala.
Some NC cadres, however, claimed that the election was unfair. The chanted slogans against the elected district level president and other party leaders.
The election that concluded Tuesday elected five Mahasamiti members and 24 representatives for the constituency level convention.
Three file candidacy
According to our correspondent, three leaders have filed candidacy for district president in Sunsari. Ram, Bahadur Basnet and Rajib Koirala, believed to be the close of Acting President Koirala, and Sita Ram Mehta, believed close to senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, have filed candidacy for the post.
Youths have been elected in the VDC, Municipality and Regional level convention in Sunsari. The Koirala faction has led in the election in Sunsari´s six constituencies.
According to our district correspondent, NC´s district level election in Gurkha has concluded with Hari Bahadur Ghale elected party district president. Ghale is close to Koirala.
Party cadres have lodged complaints at the central election office protesting the victory of Purna Bahadur Khadka as party district president. The cadres say he did not file candidacy in Surkhet constituency-1 and demand cancellation of his victory.
