NC leaders tell PM to oppose presidium system

KATHMANDU, Nov 10: Nepali Congress (NC) leaders have urged Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal not to accept the presidium system as proposed by the UCPN (Maoist) as an option for a new government.



Before the start of Wednesday´s meeting of top leaders of the three major parties, NC President Sushil Koirala made this plea to Prime Minister Nepal during a talks held at Baluwatar this morning.[break]



Holding its Central Committee meeting, Congress has termed the proposal of presidium system an unconstitutional.



During two-party discussion, both parties have expressed disagreement to the stand of the Maoist party regarding budget. The Maoists have been saying that the incumbent government shouldn´t present this fiscal year´s budget.



After the meeting, Congress leader Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat told reporters that the meeting focused on bringing budget to rid the country of an economic crisis.



Besides Koirala and Mahat, Bimalendra Nidhi and some senior leaders of Congress went to Baluwatar to meet the Prime Minister, who is a senior CPN-UML leader. However, UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal was not present in the meeting.
