Expressing their views at the party´s ongoing CC meeting that began on Thursday, they opined that factors such as population, geography, and cultural and religious similarities should be taken into consideration to keep the existing social structures intact.
Binaya Dhoj Chand, who expressed his view on proposed federal states in the meeting, claimed that party leaders agreed that delineation of federal states should not be made without taking these factors into account. They have also warned the party leadership not to take decision in line with the demands of ´mob.´
CC members Bhishma Raj Angdambe, Dr Narayan Khadka, Uma Adhikari, Jip Tsering Lama and Sunil Bhandari were among the leaders who expressed their opinions on the report on the state restructuring prepared by a committee headed by the party´s vice president Gopal Man Shrestha.
Shrestha´s report has proposed two models of state restructuring in which the first one proposes to delineate seven provinces, while another model proposes to delineate Nepal into five provinces.
Chand said Shrestha´s report is flawed as it puts Makawanpur, Chitwan, Bara and Parsa into one federal state. “There is no uniformity in the social structure in these districts,” he said.
The next CC meeting will be held at 8 am Tuesday as there is a statute committee meeting of the party on Monday.
