"As we were of the view that the party was opposed to extending the term of the Constituent Assembly elected for a specific period, it will not be logical for the party to stand for reinstating the dissolved Constituent Assembly," said Central Committee member Gagan Thapa. "We suggested the party should go for a fresh election." [break]
Altogether ten leaders, including Thapa, Badri Pandey, Ram Kumar Chaudhary, Dina Upadhyay, Dhanaraj Gurung, Bhismaraj Angdambe, among others, expressed their opinion on the current political issues during Sunday´s meeting.
Some of the members cautioned the party leadership that the ongoing talks might be yet another ploy of Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to drag Nepali Congress Party in another trouble.
"Some of the central committee members were of the view that the talks might be guided by ill-intention," said Thapa.
At the very outset of the meeting, party General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula had informed the central working committee members of ongoing talks among the major political parties to end the current political deadlock.
"Sitaula told the meeting that the talks are just trust building efforts," said a central member about the general secretary´s briefing, "The talks focused on whether the Constituent Assembly should be reinstated or there should be a fresh election."
The central committee members also suggested the party leadership not to give priority to the government as the party will loose its stances in the negotiations if it gives priority to the government, according to another central committee member.
"The party should be even ready to accept a neutral government to hold election," said Thapa about the opinion of the central committee members.
Members Chaudhary and Angdambe also demanded that party take a firm position on issue of nationalism and national sovereignty. They were of the view that foreign interference had increased in domestic affairs and the political parties have been loosing their independence in taking decision on such issues.
In the meantime, some central committee members of the Nepali Congress Party demanded the party to expose what they said was "policy" corruption by the Maoist party-led government before the people.
For this, they have demanded the party to form a committee to gather cases of policy corruption and expose them before the people, according to Thapa.
"The central committee members are more or less, in consensus on forming such a committee," said Thapa.
But Thapa told the meeting that the party should first "purify" itself and keep the party account transparent. Thapa opined in the meeting that the party leaders holding important positions in the party should also submit details of their properties to the party annually.
"Before we expose the corruption of the Maoist party, we should also prepare our position on the kind of institutions the country should have to fight against corruption," said Thapa.
