KATHMANDU, Feb 5: Nepali Congress leader Umesh Shrestha is going to go to the Election Commission (EC) with the demand that he be declared as winner from Chitwan Constituency-2.
Leader Shrestha is scheduled to go to the Election Commission at 11:30 am today and hold a press conference at 2pm. One seat in the House of Representatives has fallen vacant in Chitwan Constituency-2 after the Supreme Court found that Ravi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, is not eligible to be a lawmaker on the ground of his citizenship.
Shrestha, who was a candidate from the Nepali Congress on behalf of the ruling coalition at that time, was defeated by RSP Chairman Lamichhane by about 35,000 votes. With the cancellation of Lamichhane's post, he is demanding that he should be declared the winner automatically as he is in second place.
