KATHMANDU May 12: Nepali Congress (NC) leader and Constituent Assembly member Purushottam Basnet has passed away. Basnet, who had been unwell for some time, died in his Sifal home at the age of 78.
Born on November 6 1945 AD, in Solukhumbu’s Likhupike Municipality, Basnet fought for the establishment of democracy in the country and spent 9 years of his life in jail as a result. He was unmarried.
Basnet, who was an invitee to be a central member of the party in People’s Movement II in 2006, was most recently a treasurer of Jannayak BP Koirala Smriti Trust. President of the trust, Rajendra Parajuli, said that his remains are to be kept in Pashupati temple to pay tribute, then cremated.
