“Without the peace process moving ahead, there is no point in extending the CA. So the parliament cannot move ahead with the procedures to endorse the bill on the CA term extension mentioned in the House business today,” said Nepali Congress (NC) chief whip Laxman Ghimire.[break]
Then the lawmakers from the NC, Madhes-based and some small parties obstructed the House proceedings. Speaker Subas Nembang stated that the next meeting of the parliament would be held Tuesday afternoon.
Ghimire argued that last year the parties had agreed to extend the CA term on conditions that the peace process would move ahead and Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal would resign. “But the government could not take the peace process ahead. Even this government has not held any meeting of the Special Committee to take the process forward,” said Ghimire.
Earlier, speaking at the Special Hour, NC Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Poudel said that the 10-point demand put forward by his party must be addressed to extend the term.
“It is laughable to argue that the peace process would reach its logical conclusion by keeping the CA intact without national consensus,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bishwendra Paswan spoke for the rights of minorities and some women lawmakers, including Ushakala Rai, put forward their views demanding 33 percent representation of women in the state organs including the government.
