KATHMANDU, Oct 13: The Naya Shakti Nepal (NSN) may disassociate itself from the broad left alliance due to a disagreement over the sharing of constituencies in the upcoming provincial and parliamentary elections. The left alliance announced earlier this month constitutes UML, CPN (Maoist Center) and Naya Shakti Nepal.
Early setback for left alliance as Bhattarai decides to quit
NSN leaders said that their party coordinator Baburam Bhattarai has made his mind to quit the alliance if the UML and CPN (Maoist Center) refused to give a respectable status in the party.
Bhattarai has demanded 15 constituencies including one of the two constituencies in Gorkha district from where he was elected in the second Constituent Assembly elections in 2013.
But UML and Maoist Center have ruled out any possibility of giving than five constituencies. In addition to that, Maoist Center does not look keen to concede a Gorkha constituency to Bhattarai.
NSN leaders said that Bhattarai, who had earlier announced to contest election using UML's election symbol, may forge alliance with Madhes-based parties.
UML and Maoist Center, which have announced to unify after the elections, have agreed to share the constituencies in the ratio 60:40 after electoral adjustments with smaller parties.
