Nepal is incurring a loss worth Rs. 1.2 billion every year due to natural calamity.
According to a study carried out by mercy corps, a NGO, an investment of one Euro in the pre-warning system could minimize damages equivalent to 3.5 Euros.
The study reports also mentions that in the past 37 years Nepal has lost 26,656 people due to natural calamity, 4.6 million people have been directly affected, 841,000 hectares of land has been damaged and some 236,000 cattle heads have perished.
The national level workshop on pre-warning system was organised jointly by the Home Ministry, Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Practical Action and Mercy Corps.
Some 200 people from Banke, Bardia, Kailali, Rupandehi, Nawalparasi, Chitwan, Sarlahi, Saptari and Sunsari, the most vulnerable districts of Nepal in terms of natural calamity took part in the workshop.
