National tournament to pick players for chess olympiad

KATHMANDU, April 20: Nepal Chess Association is set to hold the 19th National and Fourth Women's National Tournament in Ilam from May 19 to 24 to select players for the 42nd Chess Olympiad. The top five players of the national tournament will travel to Azerbaijan for the Olympiad slated for September 1 to 14. Ilam District Chess Association and Gajmukhi Chess Club will look after the managerial part of the tournament that will played in two groups.

The five players that took part in the 41st Chess Olympiad, Fide Masters, Candidate Masters, veterans, amateurs, winner of the U-19 national championship, players from Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police Club and APF will compete in the group A, while group B will have 20 men and 12 women picked from the open selection. Matches of the group B will be played at Satdobato, Lalitpur from May 2 to 6.
