National Security Advisor Bairagi resigns ahead of ambassadorial appointment

KATHMANDU, July 31: Shankar Das Bairagi has resigned from his role as the National Security Advisor to the National Security Council. His resignation was submitted on July 24, according to a source close to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

Bairagi, a former Chief Secretary, was appointed to the advisory position on June 15, 2023. His resignation coincides with the government's plans to appoint him as Nepal's ambassador to a country yet to be determined.


The ruling coalition of CPN-UML and Nepali Congress (NC) has reportedly agreed to nominate Bairagi for an ambassadorial post.
