National Paddy Day marked

KATHMANDU, June 29: The National Paddy day has been marked, organizing various programmes at Kavresthali VDC-2 of Kathmandu Friday.



The paddy day was marked with the joint initiatives of Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, International Paddy Research Centre, Federation of National Farmers´ Group, Kavresthali VDC Office and other government and non-government organizations.[break]



Some 5,000 farmers in the Kathmandu valley planted paddy signing Asare songs in different rhymes and rhythm, according to Achyut Prasad Dhakal, Chief of the Agriculture Development Office, Kathmandu.



Different musical bands were played with cultural programmes while planting paddy, he added.



Even the singing competition was held on the occasion.



This is the 15th national paddy day. The government had announced the paddy day in 2061BS.



The slogan of this year´s paddy day was – ´paddy a boon to food security´.



Most of the farmers, who often have to rely on rain water for paddy plantation, have yet to cultivate saplings in the wait of rain water.



Meanwhile, the CPN-UML, Kathmandu, Constituency-5 on Friday conducted collective paddy cultivation at Tokha, Kathmandu to mark the day.



Locals of Tokha had collectively planted paddy saplings in eight ropanis of land.



CPN-UML general secretary Iswor Pokharel was present on the occasion.



Traditional band named Panche Baaza were also played at the collective paddy plantation programme.
