National Cooperative Journalism Awarded announced

KATHMANDU, Sept 4: The Cooperative Journalists´ Network, Nepal has announced the ´National Cooperative Journalism Award´. The award will be presented to a media person raising issues of cooperatives from the upcoming year.



At a programme organised here today on the occasion of the second anniversary of the organisation, Chairman Yadav Humagain said the award is meant for encouraging journalists working for cooperatives sector. [break]



Stating that media persons should be involved in cooperatives campaign for the development of cooperatives sector, Humagain said that cooperatives sector should be made transparent.



Chairman of the National Cooperatives Association, Keshav Badal said all cooperatives should not be judged from a same angle.



Likewise, Registrar of the Department of Cooperatives Kedar Neupane pointed out the need of amending the Cooperative Act.



Chairman of the Consumers´ Central Cooperatives Association, Deepak Prasad Poudel, Vice-Chairman of the Nepal Central Saving and Credit Cooperatives Association, Rishiraj Ghimire, among others talked about the role played by cooperatives for changing society.



Now, there are 30,000 cooperatives in Nepal and around 4.5 million people are associated with this sector.
