National Assembly Election: EC approves names of 2,047 individuals on voter list

KATHMANDU, Dec 20: The Election Commission (EC) has said that the voter list has been approved for the National Assembly election to be held on January 25. According to the EC, the list comprises 2,047 voters.

In the election of members of the National Assembly, the voters are the members of the provincial assemblies as well as the mayors and deputy mayors/chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of the local governments.

According to this arrangement, there are 549 members of the provincial assemblies. Similarly, the spokesperson for the EC, Shaligram Sharma Poudel, said that there are 1,498 voters including the chairpersons and vice chairpersons of the rural municipalities and the mayors and deputy mayors of the municipalities.

According to the EC, out of the 550 voters from the provincial assemblies, the name of a voter who died has been removed, and now it consists of 549 voters.

Similarly, from the pool of 1,506 voters for rural municipality chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, and municipality mayors and deputy mayors, the EC approved the names of 1,498 individuals after removing those who have passed away, been suspended, or held different positions.

According to the election program, the electoral roll will be published on January 2 at the Election Office. If a voter's name is not included in the published voter list, if the name, surname, age, position, etc, of the person whose name is included needs to be corrected, and if a complaint is filed against the voter, an application can be made to the concerned Election Office. After that, the EC said that the final voter list will be published on January 7.

The total number of votes in the election of members of the National Assembly is 57,559.

The weightage for a vote of a provincial assembly member is 53, and the same for rural municipality chairperson and vice chairperson and mayor and deputy mayor of a municipality is 19.

According to this, the total votes of provincial assembly members will be 29,097 and the total votes of rural municipality chairpersons and vice chairpersons and mayor and deputy mayors of municipalities will be 28,462.
