CHITWAN, Jan 3: The Narayanghat-Mugling road section that connects the Capital City with the eastern and western parts of the country will be closed for an additional of half an hour from Tuesday.
Vehicles have been barred from plying the road section from 10:30 am today in a bid to facilitate the road widening drive. The road section was closed for four hours daily from 11 am to 3 pm since December 22.
“The decision was made to make the widening works easier,” said Chitwan Chief District Officer, Naryan Prasad Bhatta.
A team under the command of CDO Bhatta had inspected the upgradation works. According to him, the decision was made after the inspection yesterday
All vehicles including those carrying VIPs won’t be allowed to ply, said CDO Bhatta, adding that only ambulances will be allowed.
SP Deepak Thapa, Chief of District Police Office, Chitwan said that heavy fright vehicles will be allowed to travel along the road section only from 12 pm to 4 am.
The Narayanghat-Mugling road section will be widened to a two-lane road that meets criteria for Asian standards.
Successful completion of the road is expected to boost Nepal's trade relation with India and also ease road transportation between the two countries.
The construction had begun with funding of about Rs 3 billion from Asian Development Bank. As many as 611 workers are involved in the construction work on a daily basis, according to the project office.
