Earlier, a charge-sheet was filed at the Manang District Court demanding life imprisonment against the 40 accused. In August, Manang´s district judge Narayan Prasad Pokharel had issued detention orders against the accused. Of them, three were released on bail earlier, while a minor was handed over to his mother.
The accused had filed a petition at the Appellate Court stating that the decision of the Manang District Court was unsatisfactory. The family members of those killed are preparing to move the Supreme Court.
Police in Manang are also not satisfied with the Appellate Court order. “Serious criminal offenders have been released on date,” a police officer said. “Such order will not give justice to the victims.”
The District Court Manang is still carrying out investigation by interrogating related individuals. It is taking statements from 21 individuals representing the victims and 45 individuals representing the culprits. Of them, the court has taken statements of 24 people this week. The court said it will need two more days to take statements from all of them.
Seven youths from Kerauja, Gorkha, who had reached Lapselek in Nar, Manang, were killed by locals there in June this year. The police only recovered two dead bodies.
