The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a corruption case against main accused and suspended Executive Chairman of NAC Sugat Ratna Kansakar and five other officials nearly two months ago. [break]
They were charged with violating the Public Procurement Act and embezzling Rs 57.3 million while sending non-refundable lock-up money to the Airbus company.
The Special Court had issued summons to the accused after the CIAA filed case against them. The court on December 26 ordered Kansakar and the other five to appear before it within 15 days.
On Thursday, KC, acting assistant general manager of the troubled national flag carrier, presented himself in court and recorded his statement. Following completion of KC´s statement, a bench of the court comprising its chairman Gauri Bahadur Karki and judges Om Prakash Mishra and Kedar Chalise sought bail from KC.
KC deposited the bail amount at the court and he was released. The other accused including Kansakar and Acting Assistant General Manager Ganesh Thakur, Acting Director Gyanendra Purush Dhakal, Director Mayur Sumsher Rana and Acting Deputy Director Keshav Raj Sharma are also expected to appear in court in person shortly, said Special Court Registrar Dhir Bahadur Chand.
After the CIAA filed case against the officials, they had petitioned the Supreme Court seeking an interim order against the Special Court´s move, but the apex court rejected the petition.
