Speaking at the Division Commanders Coordination Conference-2072, held in Kathmandu, the divisional commanders said they were ready to expedite the long-delayed reconstruction work in the quake-hit areas. During the conference, which was attended by Defense Minister Bhim Rawal, Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Rajendra Chhetri and other NA generals, the divisional commanders set out a clear framework for reconstruction work and the NA's possible role in it.
According to a press statement issued by the NA Directorate of Public Relations (DPR), the division commanders reviewed the status of the devastation, among other issues, and the security challenges that have emerged from the current political situation.
Addressing the conference, Defense Minister Rawal instructed NA personnel to remain in a state of readiness to take on the responsibility of tackling the security situation and the duties that may come upon them in rebuilding the nation. The minister lauded the army's role in rescue and relief operations in the wake of the earthquake.
“NA now needs to be more professional, become well-equipped and modernized. The government will leave no stone unturned to keep the army up to date, professional and competent,” he added.
The divisional commanders also ensured the government of preparedness to face any threats to Nepal's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national unity. They expressed serious concern over the prevailing unease in the country.
The top NA officials were for taking on additional responsibilities only after making further assessments of the security situation in the country.
