Australians were foreign tourists among those stranded in various trekking trails in Nepal due to the lockdown imposed by the government to stem the spread of novel coronavirus.
The Australian Embassy in Nepal chartered the flight to evacuate citizens from Australia and New Zealand stranded in Nepal. This is the first time Nepal Airlines aircraft touched down on Australian soil.
