NEPALGUNJ, June 9: Two persons have died of an unidentified disease in Matahaiya VDC of Banke district across the Rapti River. More than 20 people have suffered from the disease in wards no 4, 5 and 6 of the VDC after the disease spread out since last week. Body shivering, fever and feeling of cold are observed as the main symptoms of the disease.

A team of the District Public health Office that has gone to the areas for fact finding said that it could be malaria as per the initial investigation. The patients are being treated in Rupaidiya and Baharaich of India -the bordering areas of the district as they have no easy access to the district headquarters, Nepalgunj.

Ram Bahadur Chand, focal person at the District Public Health Office, said preparations are underway to send the additional health workers for further inquiry.

Poverty stricken and backward areas across the Rapti River have been suffering from natural disaster and pandemic during the summer season and monsoon.
