Holi is widely known as the festival of colors. The colored powder thrown at each other is the major attraction of the festival. Everyone is welcomed to join the celebration of love. And the colors used in Holi also signify upcoming spring.

And this year’s Holi turned to be very special for me as I gathered best memories of my life. I celebrated it with my closest friends. There were no specific plans made for Holi as I wasn't sure if I was going to celebrate it this year. But thanks to my friends, I played Holi.

Holi Punhi Celebration in London

One of the best friends called me early in the morning and invited me for lunch. On the way to her home I did not get hit by balloons/plastic filled with water which made me happy. At her house around six of us gathered and played colors. After that we went to Nayabazar, Tudhikhel, Bhrikuti Mandap, among others.

The atmosphere around was fully filled with the energy of youths and teenagers. I saw people enjoying with their group of friends and hanging around with all those big grins on their faces. It seemed that people were not just coloring their faces but also coloring their lives with happy feelings.

Since I went around to various place and encountered many people playing Holi, I witnessed many changes in comparison to previous years. This year I felt safe and enjoyed without being conscious about getting hit with plastic/balloon filled with water from strangers. Being a girl, for the first time in my life, either me or my friends suffered any type of annoyance while walking through the crowd. This experience made me realized that things have changed a lot since the laws made for this festival has been followed strictly. In spite of the crowd, we didn't find any type of harassment or anything that harmed our self respect.

This made me feel that girls can also come out from their houses and celebrate Holi fearlessly with their people. Playing Holi is the means of spreading love and friendship to the whole world through the colors, symbolizing various meanings. Holi has become not just a festival but the way of celebrating life and creating memories to cherish.
