KATHMANDU, July 31: The Muslim Commission has requested the Muslim community to celebrate the festival of Eid Ul Adha by performing Namaz at home.

The festival is generally celebrated by Muslim individuals by gathering at mosques and reciting Namaz, an Islamic worship or prayer. However, this year due to the lockdown imposed by the authorities to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the mosques across the nation remain closed.

In a press release issued by the commission, Samir Mia Ansari, the president of the commission, wrote, “Although Eid is a festival of gatherings and celebrations, this year the situation is different due to the fear of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, following the government’s guidelines, we request people from the Muslim community to celebrate the festival by reciting Namaj within their homes.”

The release further states that the Muslim Commission has been grateful for the mutual cooperation and harmony maintained during tough times like this by all the Nepalis across the globe. “The commission believes that this solidarity stays intact for every other hardship to come,” the release further stated.

The Eid Ul Adha for this year began on the evening of Thursday, July 30 and will end on Monday, August 3. The main celebration is scheduled for Saturday, August 1.
