NEPALGUNJ, Nov 2: The District Court here on Tuesday remanded Meraj Ahmad and seven others arrested to judicial custody on the charge of abduction and murder of school students Kapil Dwivedi and Liladhar Bhatta.

A single bench of Mahendra Gautam ordered that the eight accused be kept in judicial custody and issued arrest warrants against other eight absconding culprits. [break]The eight, who had been kept in police custody, have been sent to jail after the court´s order.

Public prosecutor Rajan Raj Ghimire, and six other lawyers including Bhola Singh Hamal, Sunil Shrestha, Bishwa Jit Tiwari and Pokharel Bishnu had pleaded on the behalf of the victims. Fifty-eight lawyers had registered to plead for the victims while no lawyer had agreed to plead for the accused.

There was no one left to plead for the accused as the lawyer on court´s payroll was on a leave.

"We urged the district bar to plead on their behalf after no lawyer agreed to do so. But we couldn´t provide lawyer for the defendants despite our efforts," registrar of the court Dilli Ratna Shrestha said.
