Muraraka has been given the responsibility of officiating president after incumbent president Pradeep Jung Pandey was arrested on Tuesday evening on the charge of evading a 30-year-old jail sentence.
FNCCI will soon call its standing committee meeting and executive committee meeting to decide its future course of action. According to an official, the meeting will be held within a day or two.
As per the statute of FNCCI, the vacant post of president should be filled within six months through election.
PANDEY HOSPITALIZED
Pandey, who was arrested on Tuesday evening, has been admitted to Sahid Gangalal National Heart Center on Tuesday night after he complained of chest pain.
He was taken to hospital soon after Crime Investigation Bureau of the Nepal Police brought him to its Maharajgunj-based office.
On June 30, 1982, the Kathmandu District Court had given Pandey, who was an employee at Nepal Water Supply Corporation, a jail term of three years and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 after finding him guilty in a corruption case.
Pandey had immediately challenged the verdict but the then court to hear appeal of corruption cases had upheld the verdict of Kathmandu District Court on June 20, 1984. Pandey has yet to serve around 1 year and nine months of the sentence, according to the court.
Pandey was arrested after a writ petition demanding an interim order against his possible arrest was scrapped by the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
