RANGELI, March 14: The locals of recently-announced Rangeli Municipality in the southeastern of Morang district are at risk of fire-induced damages as the municipality has lack a concrete plan for fire risk reduction.

The district with a sub-metropolitan city and seven municipalities has a single fire engine and that too is not reliable, locals complained.

In a fire that broke out recently gutted four houses to cinder in Rangeli Bazaar and caused huge property damage due to lack of a fire brigade.

Last year, property worth millions was damaged and the entire villages were gutted in a fire at Govindapur and Darbesh VDCs, leaving hundreds of people homeless.

Coordinator of Rangeli Civil Society Mangal Chandra Agrawal said that a fire brigade is needed in Rangeli Municipality which is the centre of 25 VDCs in the district.

The thatched-roof houses with traditional ovens in the kitchen are at high risk of fire in the rural area of southeastern in Morang, it is said.

Ashok Sapkota, a local of Rangeli Municipality-3, said that there is no other option except to pour water from pots if a fire broke out.
