Municipalities directed to put fire engines in well condition

KATHMANDU, April 5: A meeting of the Central Natural Disasters Rescue Committee held on Friday under the chair of Minister for Home Affairs Madhav Prasad Ghimire has come up with timely decisions on the mitigation and management of natural disasters.



The meeting had decided to equip all the municipalities across the country with fire engines and put them (fire engines) in operational condition bearing in mind the risk of disasters possible in the summer.



As per the decision, the Ministry of Local Development shall take initiative to allocate five per cent of the internal income of local bodies for the mitigation and management of disasters.



Similarly, the meeting forwarded a report prepared by the national disasters response frameworkdraft and search and rescue capacity building for necessary decisions .



Likewise, as per the meeting decision, the ministries of irrigation and foreign affairs will take necessary initiatives to control the possible damages by the Gandak Barrage.
