MUGU May 10: Heavy snowfall has caused a major problem in searching for the three people who haven’t been found since the avalanche at Chyankhu in Mugum Karmarong Municipality wards 1 and 2. Due to the depth of the snow in the area being 10 feet, officials have been unable to carry out their search properly.

On 5 May, 40-year-old Tarasingh Sarki along with 35 years old Punn Sarki and Bir Bohora of Talfigaun, Patarasi Municipality-2 got caught in an avalanche while collecting Yarsagumba (Cordyceps). Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohan Bahadur Basnet said that though security personnel have been on the lookout for the missing people since Tuesday, progress wasn’t made due to the snow.

DSP Basnet said that they will continue their search today as well.

“We are searching for the missing people with the help of ropes and sticks. There is thick snow and on top of that, it has also been snowing non-stop,” he commented.
