"Please open your shops, we will retaliate if someone forces you to close your shops," said Uma Shankar Adgariya, MPRF-D district president, addressing a corner meeting at the end of the rally.
He said that they could not remain mute spectators to people´s problems made worse by the power centered strike.
In the meantime, other ruling parties in the district are also planning to defy the strike. "Maoists have been organizing the strike to achieve power by making people to suffer. So we will not spare anyone who creates problems to the people," said a district-level UML leader.
In the meantime, Maoist supporters held peaceful demonstrations in the district with a mock funeral procession of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.
