MP Chaudhary's name included in voters’ list

KATHMANDU, Feb 24: The name of lawmaker Arun Kumar Chaudhary has been included in the electoral roll for the presidential election. According to the Office of the Election Officer, MP Chaudhury's name has been included in the voters’ list based on the application to revise the list.

MP Chaudhary was convicted of setting fire to a tractor more than a decade ago. He was arrested by the police on February 2 and sent to prison. MP Chaudhary was suspended after his arrest.

However, the president pardoned him on the occasion of Democracy Day. 

His suspension was lifted after the letter issued by the president for his release from prison reached the Federal Parliament Secretariat. He was released from prison on Sunday. With the lifting of the suspension, his position as an MP has been reinstated.

Assistant Election Officer Amrita Kumari Sharma informed Republica that the office of the Election Officer has corrected the voters’ list for the presidential election. The final list of voters was published at 3 pm today.

The details of House of Representatives member Sangita Mandal Dhanuk, National Assembly member Durga Kumari Gurung, member of the Provincial Assembly Saraswati Khadka and Sanju Kumar Chaudhary were updated in the final list. 

The presidential election will be held on March 9. Filing of nomination of candidates for the presidential election is scheduled for Saturday. The time for filing nomination papers is from 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday (February 25).
