It is believed that those who take a holy bath in Matatirtha and offers tarpan Tuesday helps his/her mother get salvation and also bring prosperity in family.[break]
People from Kathmandu Valley and different parts of the country reached Matatirtha to remember their deceased mothers.
There is a legend that a man who walked through Matatirtha saw his dead mother in the pond on the day of Matatirtha Aunsi and since then people started going there, said culture expert Dr. Vishnu Dahal.
Meanwhile, Mathatirtha Aunsi was observed by all Hindus offering clothes, sweets and fruits to their mothers. The festival is marked giving special importance to mothers and honouring them.
