Mother-son left high and dry after husband’s death

KALIKOT, Jan 16: Nar Singh of Simkot Rural municipality-8, Humla, died five years ago. After the death of Singh who was raising a family by earning wages at home, his wife Jasmati Singh and his son Dhangiri Singh are facing difficulties and hardships.

KALIKOT, Jan 16: Nar Singh of Simkot Rural municipality-8, Humla, died five years ago. After the death of Singh who was raising a family by earning wages at home, his wife Jasmati Singh and his son Dhangiri Singh are facing difficulties and hardships.


Jasmati, who has speech problems, has no one to work with at home. “My son is too young. Our house is in a dilapidated state. To build a house, there is no one to work with,” Jasmati said. She is worried about how to spend this cold winter. Her husband is no more with her. “There are no clothes to wear. There is nothing to eat at home. I can’t see properly. There is no grain in the house,” she said, adding that after her financial condition became critical, she started begging for food in the village.

Kamal Bahadur Buda, chairman of Ward No. 8, said, “I went to assess the condition of the houses of the citizens of the village. I saw that the condition of Jasmati's house was very pitiful.” He said that he could not help from the ward. He said that he will report to the village council for relief and will raise the matter in the meeting of the village council.


“My son is not admitted to school and villagers dominate us. We have problems meeting ends. We are living in the cattle shed of the house and are worried about how to sustain our livelihoods,”  said Jasmati.
