As a child I looked out the window in pleasant glee
At the waving clouds in the air
And the clear blue sky
The hilltop far from me
And the world glistening like the sea
All no longer now
Buried in a graveyard miles away,
Burnt to coal black ashes.
Happy Earth Day!
The once blue above me,
Now a grey like the dust before me
I’ll be grave to tell my children
About the beautiful tigers in the mountains.
God forbid they even know what mountains are then!
And they’ll be saddened
To think of blooming flowers and whistling tree’s
To have never seen the amazon.
And it’s hundreds of species
And that is all our fault,
Our selfishness
And our recklessness.
For it is us,
Who have crushed up our earth
Like a piece of tin foil
And thrown it in the trash
For the future generation to dig up;
And face all the harshness of
Because it’s a used present
Left by us.
