Eighteen-year-old Bandana Khadka and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Goma were traveling from Riku village of Gaurishanker-4 to Jagat village of Lamabagar. [break]
Bandana, a student of eighth grade at Gaurishanker Higher Secondary School, lived in a rented room in Jagat village. She was returning to the village after a monsoon vacation drew to a close, said Krishna Khadka, principal of the school.
The principal said her father-in-law Hom Bahadur, brother-in-law Govinda and sister Swastika were accompanying her to the village. “The father-in-law and the brother-in-law went across first. But the crossing snapped when Bandana, with her daughter in arms was crossing the river,” Khadka said, based on what Hom Bahadur told him.
Hom Bahadur sought locals´ help to trace the missing mother and daughter duo. Locals and police from a post at Gongar bazaar searched for the two throughout the day, but failed to trace them.
Bandana was studying in eighth grade when she got married to Baburam Khadka of Riku village two years ago. She rejoined classes this year, after a two year hiatus, and was returning to Jagat after a vacation to attend the school.
