KATHMANDU, April 24: Nepali cricket chief coach Monty Desai has been honored as Nagarik Nayak 2080.
Desai, regarded as the most successful coach in the history of Nepal for guiding the Nepali cricket team to the global qualifiers of the World Cup, has been honored by Nagarik Nayak 2080.
On the occasion of its 15th anniversary of Nepal Republic Media, Lalitpur Metropolitan Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan and Nepal Public Media's founding president Binod Raj Gyawali jointly honored coach Desai on Monday.
Nepal won 11 of the last 12 World Cup qualifiers. All this was possible only because of Desai's training. In honor of this, he has been declared Nagarik Nayak of the Year 2080.
Kids trek to Everest base camp
Desai was appointed as the coach of Nepali national cricket team last year. Cricket Association of Nepal has signed a two-year contract with him.
Earlier, Desai was the batting consultant of the Nepali U-19 team in 2017. Prior to that, he worked for the national cricket team during the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers.
He has managed the cricket teams of the West Indies, Afghanistan, the UAE and Canada in the past.
