Nepali cricketers receive medals from Indian players and coaches

KATHMANDU, Sept 5: After the arrival of Nepali cricket coach Monty Desai, there has been a significant change in Nepali cricket. Under his guidance, the Nepali team won 11 of the last 12 World Cup qualifiers. Monty Desai has not only improved Nepal's game but has also adopted new measures to boost the morale of the Nepali players. Accordingly, he has introduced the concept of a Happy Dressing Room which has garnered praise from Nepali cricket enthusiasts.

KATHMANDU, Sept 5: After the arrival of Nepali cricket coach Monty Desai, there has been a significant change in Nepali cricket. Under his guidance, the Nepali team won 11 of the last 12 World Cup qualifiers. Monty Desai has not only improved Nepal's game but has also adopted new measures to boost the morale of the Nepali players. Accordingly, he has introduced the concept of a Happy Dressing Room which has garnered praise from Nepali cricket enthusiasts.


Meanwhile, in the ongoing Asia Cup match in Sri Lanka, India won by 10 wickets against Nepal. Nepal, which was playing the Asia Cup cricket for the first time, is being praised for its performance in the match against India on Monday. After losing the toss, Nepal batted first and scored 230 runs after losing all wickets in 48.2 overs. Asif Sheikh scored 58 runs in 97 balls with 8 boundaries for Nepal. Sompal Kami contributed 48 runs off 56 balls with 1 four and 2 sixes. Kusal Bhurtel contributed 38 runs off 25 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Dipendra Singh Airee scored 29 runs and Gulsan Jha scored 23 runs. Nepal's Bhim Sarki hit 7, Rohit Paudel 5 and Kushal Malla got out for 2 runs. Sandeep Lamichhane was run out after scoring 9 runs. India was given a new target of 145 runs in 23 overs as per the DLS method after incessant rains interrupted the game. India achieved this target with 17 balls to spare, winning the match by 10 wickets.

The Indian team's players and coaches presented medals to the Nepali team despite the defeat. A video released by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) captures the moment when Indian players and coaches awarded medals to three Nepali players who performed best in the match in the dressing room.


Coach Desai hung Tokens of Love in the Happy Dressing Room to encourage the players who performed well in the match. Medals were given to opener Asif Sheikh, all-rounder Sompal Kami and Dipendra Singh Airi, who performed well against India on Monday. Indian batting sensation Virat Kohli presented the medal to Asif. Similarly, all-rounder Hardik Pandya gave medals to Sompal and coach Rahul Dravid to Dipendra.
