KATHMANDU, Aug 15: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) says the monsoon trough has shifted south of its usual position, causing monsoon activity to gradually weaken across Nepal.
This afternoon, expect mostly cloudy skies over the hilly regions, including Sudurpaschim, while other areas will see partial cloud cover. The DHM forecasts a chance of moderate rainfall in parts of the hills — especially Sudurpaschim — and at one or two spots in the Terai.

Tonight, cloudier conditions will linger in the hilly regions and Koshi Province, with partial cloudiness elsewhere. Moderate showers are likely in some hilly and Terai pockets of Gandaki, as well as in select hilly areas of Bagmati, Lumbini, and Karnali Provinces.
While the monsoon may be losing steam, the DHM warns that rainfall could still trigger landslides and debris flows in hill areas, raise water levels in rivers and streams, and disrupt transportation. Authorities urge the public to stay alert and be prepared.
