BAGLUNG, Sept 12: Baglung has reported 18 casualties from monsoon-induced disasters in the past three months. A total of 10 persons including 8 women have been killed in landslides and floods since July 29 this year in the district.
A total of 12 deaths were reported in Badigad Rural Municipality, while Baglung Municipality reported 4 deaths and Galkot recorded two deaths.
Monsoon disasters claim 101 lives in Nepal so far
Inspector Pratap Paudel at the District Police Office, Baglung, said the majority of the casualties were due to houses being buried by landslides. A total of 22 people were injured in the disasters, including seven in Badigad and one each in Jaimani Municipality and Bareng Rural Municipality.
An 11-year-old boy from Badigad Rural Municipality-10 is still missing due to the landslide. It is reported that around 80 families have been affected by the disasters alone in Badigad, according to Rural Municipality Chairman Gandaki Thapa Adhikari. It is estimated that approximately 150 families have been affected throughout the district.
The local representative stated that they expect support and cooperation for post-disaster management efforts, as the locally available resources are insufficient to address the situation effectively. Ward Number 10 in Badigad has been affected the most. This year, monsoon rain was recorded to be above average in the country.
