According to a report released by the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), monsoon clouds reached the western region on June 24.
Weather experts have attributed delay to weak monsoon."Formation of monsoon clouds was delayed in the pacific sea region. The impact has been termed the El Nino effect. Climatic condition above that region prevented formation of clouds. Eventually, this pushed backed the normal timing for the monsoon clouds to enter Nepal," said Samir Shrestha, meteorologist at MFD.
Shrestha also attributed the delay to cyclone Asoba and the depression that has formed above the Arabian Sea. "The cyclone observed most of the moisture from the clouds making it partially dry. Furthermore, the depression formed on the western side prevented the south easterly movement of wind that moves the clouds toward the Bay of Bengal," explained Shrestha.
He said that we would have to wait for a few more days for heavy and continuous rainfall. According to him, Nepal is still experiencing movement of isolated clouds, which do not bring rainfall.
