KATHMANDU, June 17: One week later than the expected date, monsoon finally arrived in Nepal. Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) termed Thursday´s sporadic rains recorded mainly in the eastern and central parts of the country as the onset of monsoon, which was expected to become active earlier on June 10.

“Though a little late, monsoon has entered Nepal,” Rajendra Shrestha, senior meteorologist at Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD), said. However, according to Shrestha, monsoon is still less active, causing only sporadic rains in eastern and central parts of the country. [break]

“It will take a few more days to be active,” he said. “We need not be fearful of drought this year.”

According to MFD, the heaviest rainfall (73mm) was recorded in its Biratnagar on Thursday. In the western part of the country, MFD recorded only traces of rainfall.
