Moktan, Tamang win gold medals

KATHMANDU, Nov 2: National Champion Jeet Bahadur Moktan clinched the gold medal in the men´s individual recurve event of the First Indoor National Archery Championship on Friday while Renu Tamang won the gold in the women´s individual recurve event.



Moktan of Manang Marshyangdi Archery Club (MMAC) thrashed Khagendra Malla of Kaski Archery Association (KAA) 3-0 during the final of the men´s individual recurve event at the National Sports Council Covered Hall. [break]



Prem Prasad Pun of Himalayan Archery Club (HAC) edged past Ashim Sherchan of KAA in straight sets to claim the bronze medal in the event.



Tamang of KAA beat her teammate Rajya Laxmi Joshi 3-1 in the final of the women´s individual recurve event while Maya Syangtan of HAC defeated Dil Kumari Bhujel of KAA 3-0 in a third place play-off.

Birendra Gurung of HAC clinched gold medal in the men´s individual standard recurve event of the tournament organized by Nepal Archery Association. Gurung crushed Dev Pun of Annapurna Archery Club 3-0 in the final. Tilak Man Pun of Magar Samaj beat Hom Bahadur Thapa of Kanchanpur to claim bronze medal of the event.



In women´s individual standard recurve final, Soni Sherpa of HAC humbled Saraswati Gurung of Annapurna Archery Club (AAC) 3-0.



However, the bronze medal playoff of the event between Monica Rana of AAC and Sarita Tamang of HAC was a thriller. Rana and Tamang shared two sets each and scored tied at 27 points each in the final set taking the match to ´one-arrow shoot-off´. Tamang scored only eight points in the shoot-off while Rana scored 10 points to claim the bronze medal.



The tournament will conclude on Saturday with three gold medals on offer.
