KATHMANDU, Aug 31: The government has formed a four-member committee to investigate the recent mass death of cows in Surkhet.
The probe committee formed under the coordination of under-secretary of Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) Sagar Mani Pathak is assigned to investigate the case and submit the report within 15 days, according to the spokesperson of the ministry Ram Krishna Subedi in a press statement issued on Saturday. The ministry has urged the concerned departments to coordinate the committee.
Citing the incident as a criminal offense, the ministry has said that it is committed to taking action against the perpetrators.
At least 24 cows were been found dead in the Katkuwa jungle of Birendranagar while being transported to Dailekh from Nepalgunj-based Kanji House, a temporary shelter for the stray cattle
Police held five truck drivers and took their vehicles under control after the incident, according to the ministry.
