KHOTANG, Dec 13: Cases related to misuse of government vehicles have been steadily increasing of late in Khotang district.

Last Thursday, a government motorcycle (Sa 1 Ba 836) hit Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raj Kumar KC in front of the District Police Office (DPO), Khotang.

The bike belonged to Maheshwari ward office of Aishelukharka Rural Municipality-5. The bike rider did not possess driving license. Police took control of the vehicle but returned it back on Sunday.

Likewise, on November 11, an unrelated person was riding a government bike with registeration number Ko 1 Ba 1374 without helmet and driving license. The person was riding the bike near the district hospital at Diktel despite having a flat tyre.

On October 7, another government motorcycle (Ba 2 Ba 8192) was parked carelessly in the middle of a road at Ratnapark of Diktel at midnight.

These are some of the cases of misuse of government vehicles. Many incidents of such vehicles violating traffic rules have surfaced. The vehicles supposed to be used for government purpose have been misused by other individuals.

Government vehicles have to take permit to ply the road during public holidays. However, many of these vehicles are caught during holidays without permit.

“We have lots of incidents related to misuse of government vehicles. And while they clearly violate the rules, people using the vehicles instead argue against traffic police for taking action,” said DSP KC.

Due to the growing misuse of government vehicles, the DPO has written to the District Administration Office (DAO), Khotang, to draw their attention to the issue. In response, the DAO has instructed the concerned authorities to check and regulate government vehicles just like private ones.
