BIRATNAGR, Dec 14: Energy Minister Janardan Sharma has claimed that five men had attempted to bribe him a total of Rs 100 million for their appointment as Managing Director at Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

Minister Sharma added that he had refused the proposal as 'he had vowed to work for the country’s benefit, not for his interest'.

“If I had accepted the bribe, I could have easily become an industrialist just like you. But, I did not choose that path because I want to work for the country’s benefit”, said Minister Sharma at an interaction in Morang on Wednesday.

During the interaction, Minister Sharma revealed his plan of participating locals in a campaign to deter power thefts.

“Electricity thefts can’t be control only by punishment. There is a need of an active participation from locals,” he said.
