Mini Parliament meeting to be held from tomorrow

KATHMANDU, August 5: The Parliamentary Committee meaning Mini Parliament's meeting is being held from tomorrow. 

The formation of the thematic committees of the Parliament was completed in five months of the formation of the federal parliament (House of Representatives (HoR) and National Assembly (NA). 

According to Federal Parliament Secretariat's Deputy Speaker Keshav Aryal, the meetings of the Committees under the HoR will convene from tomorrow. 

The separate meetings of the HoR and NA held on August 2 had unanimously approved the names of the lawmakers in the 10 different thematic committees under HoR and 4 under NA. With the endorsement of the names of the lawmakers, the door to hold the meeting of the Mini Parliament was opened. 

The thematic committees are Finance Committee, International Relation Committee, Industry and Commerce and Labour and Consumer Welfare Committee, Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee, Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources Committee, Women and Social Committee, State Affairs Committee, Development and Technology Committee, Education and Health Committee and Public Accounts Committee. 

Such parliamentary committees are considered to be the heart in the parliamentary system. The people's representatives deliberate, argue and decide on the matters of public interests in the meetings of such thematic committees. 
Now the lawmakers in the Mini Parliament meetings could deliberate on the Articles of the various Bills presented by the government. 

The new constitution stipulates the implementation of the fundamental rights within September 19 this year for which the government ought to present Bills in the parliament for deliberation and endorsement. 

Who is where in the Parliamentary Committees? 

Former Prime Minister and CPN Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' is in the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee while former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal is in Development and Technology Committee. 

Similarly, former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal is in International Relations Committee while former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai is in the Finance Committee. 

Likewise, former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba is in the Development and Technology Committee, Sita Devi Yadav in Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources, Dr Sashank Koirala and Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar in the Finance Committees, Prakash Man Singh in the International Relations Committee. 

Similarly, NC Parliamentary Party's Chief Whip Bal Krishna Khand and CPN Parliamentary Party Chief Chip Dev Prasad Gurung and former Speaker Subash Chandra Nembang are in the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee. 

CPN Secretary-General Bishnu Prasad Poudel and former Minister for Finance Surendra Prasad Pandey are in the Finance Committee while former Speaker Onsari Gharti is in Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources Committee and Bhim Bahadur Rawal in International Relations Committee. 

Likewise, Rastriya Janata Party Presidium Coordinator Mahanta Thakur is in Finance Committee and member of the same party Rajendra Mahato in the State-Affairs Committee and Good-Governance Committee. 

Former Ministers for Health Umakanta Chaudhary, Khagaraj Adhikari and Gagan Kumar Thapa are in Education and Health Committee. RSS
