Mick Jagger is reportedly recovering in New York after successfully undergoing heart surgery.

The Rolling Stones icon underwent heart valve replacement surgery yesterday and is thought to be resting up at New York’s Presbyterian hospital, according to Billboard.

Jagger is now being monitored by nurses after the minimally invasive procedure, which saw doctors repairing the valve by using a catheter that can access a major artery without any need to open the chest.

“He is resting and recovering well,” friends close to the legendary singer have said.

The operation came after he underwent a routine scan that alerted doctors to the unexpected heart issue.

Last Sunday, the Stones announced that they were postponing the North American leg of their ‘No Filter’ tour so that Jagger could have the procedure.

Apologizing directly to fans via Twitter, Jagger wrote: “I’m so sorry to all our fans in America & Canada with tickets. I really hate letting you down like this. I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can. Once again, huge apologies to everyone.”

It’s now expected that Jagger will make a full recovery, and the band could be back on the road by the beginning of the summer. They were originally set to play 17 shows in the US and Canada between April and June.
