ITAHARI, Oct 4: The Nepal Bar Association, Sunsari district chapter has objected to the detention of three Nepali nationals by the Indian security forces and urged the district authorities here to take initiatives for their unconditional release.

Dev Narayan Yadav, his son Ajaya Yadav and another Nepali citizen from Koiladi-2, near the Nepal-India border, in Saptari district have been detained by the Indian police on the false charge of abduction.

The Sunsari Bar Association handed over a memorandum to the Sunsari Chief District Officer, Gopal Prasad Parajuli, on Tuesday, drawing the government's attention to the need of taking diplomatic initiatives for the release of the three Nepali nationals who have been detained under false charge.

"The Bihar police have committed a heinous act by detaining the three Nepalis on false charges. All those detained in this connection should be released immediately without any precondition," the Sunsari Bar Association stated in the memorandum.

The Indian police in Supaul district had arrested Ajaya on the false charge of abduction. When his father, Dev Narayan went to the Indian police seeking his son's release later, he and one of his friends who had gone with him were also detained on the same charge.

It may be recalled here that Dev Narayan was the person who was at the forefront of the protests against the unilateral construction of a dam across a river along the Nepal-India border in Saptari which caused flooding on the Nepali side about three months back.

Locals say he was under the Indian security forces' surveillance since the protests and the three Nepalis might have been detained for this reason, falsely implicating them on abduction charge. RSS
