DANG, July 2: Health workers have closed health posts and halted all medical services in Rapti zone in continuation of the banda called by them to protest the attack on Dr Ishwar Raj Devkota at Rapti Zonal Hospital. Dr Devkota was attacked last Monday night by three people. A team comprising representatives of nine medical institutions under the leadership of the Rapti hospital medical superintendent Dr Kedar Senchury submitted a memo to the Chief District Officer demanding arrest of the attackers and investigation into the incident.

The CDO, Rishiram Adhikari, while accepting the memo, said the guilty would be brought to book within three days. Adhikari also requested the medical workers to call off the strike.

Meanwhile, squatters from border areas thrown out of the Kari forest have obstructed traffic at Lamahi of East-West Highway. The squatters were removed from the forest by District Forest Office with the help of police on Tuesday.

The coordinator of the Squatters´ Struggle Committee Roshan Pun said that they would launch strong protests if the government failed to find an alternative settlement plan for them. They had obstructed traffic on Wednesday too.
